A similar event happened with Twitter when the world’s richest person announces that he is going to purchase one of the social media giants.

Foundation of Twitter.com

Ideas come into existence when people are triggered by problems and tend to solve them. In a BOD meeting of a podcasting company Odeo, Jack Dorsey introduces the idea of Twitter. The idea was originally to introduce an SMS service to communicate with a small group of people. Originally they named the project twttr. But later Noah Glass proposed to call it Twitter. After the creation of twttr, it took them 6 months to call it Twitter as the domain Twitter.com was not available.

Early Life of Twitter

Work on Twitter was started on March 21, 2006, and Jack Dorsey published the first Tweet. The Tweet was an explanation relating to the origin of the “Twitter” title:

…we came across the word “twitter”, and it was just perfect. The definition was “a short burst of inconsequential information”, and “chirps from birds”. And that’s exactly what the product was.

Firstly they used it for Odeo’s employees as Twitter was in a prototype stage at that time. This prototype was a combined effort by contractors Florian Weber and Jack Dorsey. Twitter publicly became available on 15 July 2006. Later Jack Dorsey with other Odeo members formed Obvious Corporation which later acquired Odeo along with its assets including the domain Twitter.com. Twitter spun off into its own company in April 2007.

Initially, Twitter was not distinguishable whether it is social media, microblogging, or more than that. Despite what it was considered in past now it was a platform where people raise their voices through tweets and it is one of the fastest medium of informational travel.

How does Tweet’s Volume rise within a few years?

Twitter’s popularity was increased in 2007 when it participated in the south by southwest interactive which is an annual function relating to different aspects including parallel films, interactive media & conferences organized jointly. During the event, Twitter users uses plasma screens and tweet volume was increased from 20000 to 60000 per day. But who knows at that time this volume is going to be in millions and billions in future years. Twitter was becoming the love of the users and in 2007 the number of tweets per quarter was 400,000. In 2008, there were 100M tweets posted per quarter and the number continued to increase. In March 2010 about 70M tweets are posted each day which was continuously increasing on different events and occasions.

On April 25, 2022, the Twitter board of directors agreed to a $44B buyout offer of Elon Musk as he before this offer already holds about 9% Shares of the company. Elon is the 8th most followed person on Twitter and he tweets regularly.
